The Northern Force Fastpitch program is proud to announce that 2027 outfielder and right-handed pitcher, Piper Henderson, has officially committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Freed-Hardeman University.
Henderson, a native of Georgetown, Ontario, becomes the first commitment from Northern Force's Class of 2027, setting the standard for the group and marking a significant milestone for the program.
The Recruiting Journey
Piper's path to the next level began with a clear vision early in her U15 years. Through consistent outreach, attending camps, and building relationships with college programs, she turned early interest into meaningful opportunities. Her recruiting process included multiple visits across the United States, ultimately leading her to Freed-Hardeman — where everything clicked.
"The second you step on campus it feels like home. The entire school is just one big loving community."
While weather and location initially influenced her search, Piper quickly realized that culture, connection, and fit were the most important factors in her decision.
Why Freed-Hardeman
For Piper, the decision went far beyond softball. The sense of community, strong program culture, and feeling of being truly valued as both a player and a person made Freed-Hardeman the right fit. Her family — especially her father Shaun — played a major role throughout the process, supporting her every step of the way.

Over the past several seasons, Piper has grown tremendously — not just as an athlete, but as a competitor and teammate. Her focus on the mental side of the game has elevated her confidence, while her work ethic and dedication continue to push her development forward.

"My dad was definitely my biggest influence in choosing my school. Throughout my entire recruitment journey he was right there with me… and the second we came to Freed-Hardeman, we both just knew."

Her family echoed that pride, highlighting not only her accomplishments, but the way she has carried herself throughout the journey:

As she prepares for the next level, Piper is excited to experience everything that comes with college softball — both on and off the field. Her goals include competing at a high level, earning opportunities early in her career, and continuing to develop as an athlete and teammate. Long term, she hopes to give back to the sport through coaching and mentorship.
